Tottenham finally spent money in the transfer market after bringing in Davidson Sanchez for a club record fee of £ 40 million.

The plan has been so far criticised for not spending any money after having finished second in the table last season. Tottenham also lost key players like Kyle Walker over the course of the summer. Hence, manager Mauricio Pochettino has had to prepare with a weaker squad than last season but one that had to handle the rigours of playing in the Champions League once again. There was also the expectation of having to win a trophy in order to keep players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli happy.

The start of the season has been mixed for Spurs, as they opened up with a comfortable win over Newcastle only to suffer another loss at the Wembley stadium. Sanchez has been brought in from Ajax for this club record transfer fee, and he may be starting for the first time in a Spurs jersey against Burnley this weekend.

The lack of strengthening in other areas of the pitch will continue to be the cause of concern for Mauricio Pochettino – even in the press conferences. However, he chose to stick with his words of expertise for Sanchez ahead of the match with Burnley.

"He played regularly at Ajax. Played the Europa League final against Manchester United. I think he's young but with amazing history and background.I like his personality and how he is aggressive, he is fast, he will fit for us very well. Davinson is with us because a lot of clubs were interested in him but he decided to join us.It's a massive opportunity because we believe he will be one of the best centre-backs in the world in the future. That is why we made the effort to try to sign him," said Pochettino.
