Tottenham are going through the phase that teams like Arsenal have experienced only recently.

Due to the ongoing construction work for the brand-new stadium, a lot of fans will have to be allocated to cover the interest payments. Arsenal moved from the Highbury stadium to the Emirates stadium at a cost of more than £ 500 million. Even though much of it was subsidised by the sponsorship deal with Emirates, it has hit the club a lot in terms of transfer money that is available to the manager. Arsene Wenger had not been able to spend money that would make Arsenal top competitors.

It has only been in the last couple of years that Arsenal have been able to enjoy the benefits from the larger capacity stadium. Some have speculated that Spurs will go through a similar period due to their substantial investment in the 56,000 seater stadium. This will add more than 20,000 seats over the existing White Hart Lane’s 35,000 capacity and it will be built at a cost of more than £ 500 million. Chairman Daniel Levy has confirmed that the investment in the stadium will not affect the club’s ability to spend money in the transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino has been concentrating towards trimming his squad in the last few windows. A bigger focus will be relocating from the current stadium while the new one is being built. Spurs only recently lost in the race for the Olympic stadium to West Ham. They are facing an even bigger competition from Chelsea over a proposed move to the Wembley Arena for a period of three years. Chelsea are also in the process of improving on their existing stadium capacity of 42,000 to close to 60,000 at a cost of around £ 500 million to owner Roman Abramovich.
