Tottenham Hotspur scout Chris Powell believes his side could face competition from Arsenal in the pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha next month. Spurs have made an average start to their Premier League, and they currently find themselves 21 points behind league leaders Manchester City.

Speaking on the Total Football Show, Powell suggested that Zaha could be the subject of interest from London clubs in the New Year, and he predicts his side may have to fight it out with Arsenal. However, the former Charlton boss feels Mauricio Pochettino's side may not spend huge sums to lure the Ivory Coast international to the Wembley Stadium.

He told the Total Football Show Podcast: "I can’t see him at the two Manchester City, I can’t see him at a Chelsea, and I can’t see him at Liverpool. So, it has to be Arsenal or Spurs. But I can’t see them paying £50m, £60m - so I can only see him staying [in January]."

Despite recruiting Fernando Llorente in the summer, Spurs have looked short of attacking options behind Harry Kane with Dele Alli, in particular, having a stop-start season. Alli has often been pictured as the golden boy in the current generation of England players, but his performances have been largely inconsistent this term, which has contributed to the club's dip in form.

Pochettino has already accepted that the club are no longer in the title race, and the emphasis will now be placed in qualifying for the Champions League via a top-four spot, the last of which is occupied by Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Meanwhile, the club's chances of lifting silverware look slim as they will have to contend with strong opposition in both the FA Cup and Champions League in order to end their trophy drought. Spurs have now attained any silverware since the League Cup triumph over Chelsea in the 2007/08 season.
