New Tottenham Hotspurmanager Nuno Espirito Santo is a relieved man after his team stopped the three-match losing run in the Premier League with the 2-1 win at home to Aston Villa at the weekend. Ex-Wolves and Valencia boss Nuno was a man under pressure ahead of the Villa game but the pressure has eased a bit after the victory stopped the run of losing three successive Premier League matches.

Nuno and Tottenham Hotspur won their first three games in the Premier League this season and that run took them to the summit before things fell apart. The 3-1 loss to Arsenal in the North London Derby away from home pushed Spurs into the bottom half of the table.

The bad run spanned three London derbies. It started with the 3-0 loss at the home of Crystal Palace. Spurs were then beaten by the same scoreline at home to Chelsea before the Arsenal defeat made it zero point from three games. Tottenham Hotspur dropped to 11th spot after the North London Derby defeat at the hands of the Gunners.
For the Villa game, South Korean international star Son Heung-Min was the main man for Spurs as he was provider for the two goals. Son was the assist maker for the game's opening goal from Danish Pierre-Emile Hojbjergon 27 minutes. The goal from the former Bayern Munich and Southampton midfielder gave Tottenham Hotspur a first half lead.
Aston Villa were level for just four minutes after their equaliser thanks to the own goal from Matt Targett. Ollie Watkins marked his recall to the England squad for the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with the Villa equaliseron 67 minutes. Spurs regained the lead via Targett off an assist from Son with 19 minutes left on the clock and it turned out to be the winning goal.
Tottenham Hotspur are back in the top half of the table after the win over Villa. They leapfrogged North London rivals Arsenal, Aston Villa and West Ham United to eighth spot. On their part, Villa are down to tenth spot with the defeat to Spurs.
