North London giants Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing one of their former midfielders ahead of the winter transfer window. This is according to the report from the stables of Spanish media outlet Superdeporte. It was revealed that Spurs are keen on signing Croatian football idol Luka Madrid whom they sold to Spanish La Liga leaders Real Madrid almost a decade ago.

Real Madrid paid £30m to secure the signing of Modric from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012. Spurs want to re-sign him, but they are not the only Premier League team interested in the player.

Apart from Tottenham Hotspur, new Premier League moneybags Newcastle United are also interested in signing the player though it has been reported that the 2018 Ballond'Or winner prefers Manchester City.Modric won both the Ballon d'Or and the Best FIFA Awards three years after leading unfancied Croatia to the 2018 FIFA World Cup final before they were beaten 4-2 by France. He also won a third successive Champions League title with Real Madrid during the year under review. Modric was named the best player at the end of the Russia 2018 World Cup.

Modric has six months left on his existing Real Madrid deal and he's free to start negotiating a free transfer move to the Premier League and other foreign leagues as from January. The Croatian football legend is unlikely to move away from Real Madrid in the January transfer window as he will most likely wait till next summer if he's not offered a new deal at Madrid.

Tottenham Hotspur have a new manager in Italian tactician Antonio Conte and fans would be hoping that he can use his influence to attract quality players such as the 36-year-old Modric who has turned to one of the best midfielders of his generation at Real Madrid in comparison to when he was just a quality player at Spurs around a decade ago.
